Preparing your finances

Start considering and preparing for maternity medical costs, particularly if you choose a private hospital such as Epworth Geelong.

Obstetrician, paediatrician, anaesthetist and medical practitioner fees are separate to hospital fees. The fees will be discussed with you and billed by the individual practitioners.

For more information about fees contact Epworth Geelong maternity on 03 5271 8322.

Private health insurance

If you already have insurance, we recommend contacting your private health insurer and asking them:

  • Am I covered for obstetrics?
  • What is my excess?
  • Do I have co-payments?
  • Will I have any other out of pocket expenses?
  • Do I have family cover, is my baby covered for special care nursery?
  • If you’ve recently added obstetrics to your policy

Most funds will impose a 12-month waiting period before your baby’s due date. Please check with your private health insurer.

Self-funded

If you don’t have private health insurance, or are covered by an overseas policy, you can still choose to have your baby in a private hospital as a self-funded option.

We’ll give you an estimate for fees and admission costs, which are paid before your admission to Epworth Geelong.
