Making a World of Difference
National Volunteer Week 20 – 26 May in 2019 was marked with the theme ‘Making a world of difference’ – and what a world of difference our volunteers make here at Epworth Geelong!
Celebrations were hosted at a number of Epworth sites to personally thank our volunteers and showcase some of the outstanding work achieved through volunteering.
Our volunteers undertake a variety of support activities across the hospital including caring for cancer patients in Day Oncology and the wig salon, guiding visitors, waiting with patients when they feel vulnerable and driving endless loops to transport patients home after treatment. In all they do, volunteers show their commitment to ensuring our patients and their families receive the best possible experience and care and for that we say thank you.
During National Volunteer Week, Geelong Allied Health launched an additional volunteer program which provides free transport for some patients attending Epworth Geelong Outpatient Services. The new program will involve volunteers driving patients to and from outpatient appointments. This is in addition to the current driving program which assists in the transportation of patients coming to and from the hospital for their dialysis treatment.
Volunteers are regularly complimented by patients about the driving service and often relay their gratitude for the time and effort dedicated to the program.
No matter who you are, you can make a huge difference by volunteering. Learn about volunteering at Epworth and the kinds of positions available here.
